BlogHer Bucket List

Since I plan things for a living, and I like having as much time as possible to plan, I bought a ticket for BlogHer 2011 in San Diego. So for the next year or so, I can hyperventilate and let my anxiety rage (thank the Flying Spaghetti Monster for Zoloft). So I have about a year to get my ass in gear on planning what I want and need for BlogHer 11.

I get a real sense of satisfaction with planning things. Not necessarily executing, but planning them. In other words, I’m a lot of talk, and less do.

In the movie “The Bucket List”, Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson make a list of things they’d like to do before they kick the bucket. Some people call this a life list. While I have one of those, those are really long-term goals with no real time limits, and there are some things I want to do before BlogHer.

So I present to you, the BlogHer Bucket List:

1. Buy my BlogHer’11 Pass

2. Lose at least 2 dress sizes.

3. Renew my passport (it expires April 2011 so unless I do that I’m not going)

4. Find someone or a company to sponsor at least part of the costs OR start earning some sort of income from the blog to cover or partially cover the costs.

5. Get a smartphone. Better yet, find a US company to give a smartphone to use for the conference (Verizon? AT&T? you can email me ANYTIME) or find a Canadian company that’s willing to swallow the roaming charges (TELUS, I’m looking at you since I’ve been a customer for a long time. Anyone else – Wind, Virgin, Rogers? – email me, you might get a new customer).

6. Work four to seven extra contracts and save that money to spend there. This might mean doing a lot of 4 hour contracts, but it would be worth it. (To this end, I’ve arranged for two contracts already which are worth about $1100 each)

So are you planning on going to BlogHer? Are you making a BlogHer bucket list?

Once a month, I’ll provide you with an update on the BlogHer Bucket List. Will you do the same?

What to do if you’re not going to TCWSNBN

And I’m not at it. And I’m assuming that if you’re here, you’re likely not at it either (and if you are here and at That Conference Which Shall Not Be Named (hereafter TCWSNBN) what the hell are you doing here? Go to a session or talk to someone, or something).

So if you’re all jellus of not being at TCWSNBN, here are some things you can do.

Thing The Firste

If you’re loco local, come to the I’m Not Going to TCWSNBN Pity Party at Barnet Marine Park. Let @Crunchycarpets know too. It’s at 4, so be there or be at TCWSNBN, or be somewhere else.

Benefits: You get to meet a bunch of fantastic, charming, and generally awesome bloggers. And you get to meet me, but I’m not entirely sure that’s a benefit. You also get to meet the Poptart, which is most definitely a benefit.

Thing The Seconde

TCWSNBN At Home – Giveaways!  Including swag from TCWSNBN. Chats! Bloghopping! Go!

Benefits: You can stay in your PJs.

Thing the Thirde

#HomeHer10 – created by BackpackingDad. Just use the hashtag on twitter.

Benefits: You can sit in your underwear and do this. Or pajamas. Or naked, but you don’t need to let everyone know that. There’s such a thing as TMI on Twitter.

I will be at Thing the First, and hopefully manage to do some bloghopping for Thing the Seconde.

So if you’re here from TCWSNBN at Home, welcome!

Better late than never

I have a bunch of posts in draft which may or may not be finished, depending on SOMEONE’S sleeping habits (which are alternately good, alternately I-am-not-going-to-sleep-until-3am!)

Tomorrow the Poptart and I are going to truck ourselves to downtown Vancouver. ALONE. In the car. To go to this.

Yes, I am driving downtown. Mainly because I refuse to wrangle a stroller on the skytrain and you seriously cannot expect me to take my one month old (on Sunday) baby on some grimy skytrain? If only the West Coast Express ran on weekends. I would totally take her on there.

At the same time I am mildly freaked out about driving that far with the Poptart. By myself.

For those too lazy to click through, its the BlogHer VanCity pre-BlogHer meetup thing. Very casual and down at Caffe Artigiano (Granville). You can go even if you’re not attending BlogHer in Chicago. Come. Meet new people from the internet (they’re not that scary). And I’ll let you hold the Poptart. Who doesn’t like a little baby love?

If you would like to go, please to contact Mr. Lady or tweet with the hashtag #bloghervancity and let her know you’ll be there. There is an adult beverage option after but I shall not be going because (1) Poptart and (2) I managed to sort of, kind of double book and agreed to have friends over for dinner. I think that makes me certifiably insane.
