The Basics

My name is Nicole. I live in the suburbs of Vancouver, BC with my partner, Darren and our daughter, born in May 2009, who is referred to as “The Poptart.” Why, you ask? Click here to find out.

I am a Virgo, born in the Year of the Dragon. Darren is a Virgo, born in the Year of the Rooster. The Poptart is a Taurus, born in the Year of the Ox. Our house is going to be really interesting when she becomes a teenager.

During the week, I work for a public organization. What do I do, you ask? I move information around and make sure the Right People have the Right Information at the Right Time to make (presumably) the Right Decision.

Yes, I’m deliberately vague about it. I try very hard to keep my blog and my day job separate.

On the side, I teach people how to be swim instructors. I also teach people how to teach people to be swim instructors. Yes, you read that correctly.

I have an inappropriate sense of humour and a potty mouth.

Likes

Stuff. I admit it. I like things – useful things. I’m not a big fan of clutter (see Virgo, above), but I like things that make my life more organized and easier to manage. I am a big fan of the labelmaker.

Books. I like books, a lot. The problem is, I’m really bad at returning books to the library which results in a lot of fines. I used to collect books but they led to too much clutter, which is why I like

My iPod Touch. I have an app called “Stanza” on it that lets me read ebooks. I also have an Ectaco Jetbook which is awesome. Since I got it, I’ve been a reading fiend.

Kindness and consideration. We are all valuable.

People who go out of the way every day to do small things that make all of our lives easier.

Douchebags and assholes (I warned you about the potty mouth).
